Dunn questioned, as he reflected upon the nature of the two Testaments, "Does 'New' indicate movement onto a different plane of revelation, with 'Old' subordinated to a merely background role? Or is 'New' a new form of the 'Old', with each vital to a proper reception and understanding of the other?" Further in the same work, along the same theme, he wrote, "The fundamental question of biblical theology is whether the diversity between the Testaments involves a discontinuity that decisively undermines claims to continuity." Dunn, I think, has succinctly identified the problem of biblical theology. Do the differences between the Old and New Testaments, and we must recognize that there are many, dismiss the possibility of seeing theological continuity between them?
